Why choose London West End Counselling Service?

In your search for a therapist, you have no doubt come across a large number of therapists to choose from. When choosing a therapist, it is vitally important to choose one that is a member of a recognised professional body (such as the BACP). It is also important to choose a therapist with a recognised qualification from a reputable institution. Charles obtained his Psychotherapy degree from Middlesex University, a world renowned higher education institution, in conjunction with The Metanoia Institute which is currently the government’s preferred provider of “Counselling for Depression” training in London. However, the therapist’s level of training amounts to very little if you, the client, is unable to connect with your therapist. London West End Counselling Service offers a free, no-obligation initial session, giving you a chance to meet the therapist and decide if you will be able to work with him. You will feel absolutely no pressure to make a decision to continue with further sessions.

Deciding to go to a therapist, especially if it is for the first time, can be daunting. How many sessions will I need?

The number of session that clients find useful differs from person to person. Some find significant relief from what is troubling them after just a few sessions, and others continue with therapy for several months, even years. We will regularly review our work together which will give you the opportunity to decide whether you will find further sessions useful.


How often will I come for therapy?

Weekly sessions are often most useful. However, if you are experiencing severe distress, you may choose to have more than one session per week. We will discuss this in our initial meeting, and whatever you decide is open to change as we go along. At any point you can opt for more or fewer session.


Do you offer evening and weekend sessions?

Yes. Early morning, evening, lunchtime and Weekend sessions are available.


Is there a difference between “Counselling” and “Psychotherapy”?

These terms are often used interchangeably. Sometimes the term “Counselling” is used where there is a specific problem you are seeking help with and can be short term. The process of “Psychotherapy” is usually a longer term process and is relevant when a specific cause for the psychological distress is not evident. During your initial session we can discuss what type of therapy might be most appropriate for you.

What happen if I have to cancel a session?

Life is not always predictable and plans sometimes have to change. We request that you give us the earliest possible notice if you are not able to make an agreed upon meeting. Sessions cancelled with less than 48 hours notice may still be charged, depending on the specific circumstances.

Will everything we discuss be completely confidential?

Confidentiality is a very important aspect of the counselling relationship, and your therapist is completely committed to it. All communication between you and the therapist is completely confidential, be that what is discussed in the counselling session, on the phone, or any other form of communication (email, post).

What can I expect in my first session?

You therapist will meet you in the reception area of the building. If you are a bit early, you can help yourself to complimentary refreshments. The counselling room is comfortable and private, furnished with comfortable armchairs (you will not be laying on a couch). Your therapist will again emphasise that everything discussed will be completely confidential. You will have an opportunity to express why you are seeking therapy, and there will be a space for you to ask the therapist any questions you may have and you will discuss together the way in which you may work together. The first session will give you a good view of the therapist, which will help you to decide whether you want to come back for further sessions. You will feel absolutely no pressure to continue with further session and are free to go away and think about it before committing to further sessions. However, of you feel during the first session that you want to continue, you and your therapist can discuss the counselling agreement there and then, and set up following sessions. You will not be asked to pay for the first session.

How long is each therapy session?

Each session lasts 50 minutes. Your therapist will usually manage the time so that when the session ends, you are ready to leave the counselling room.

How can I know if my therapist is properly trained?

Psychotherapy training can vary widely and it is important to be confident that your therapist’s training is recognised by the relevant governing bodies. On request, your therapist can provide you with the relevant membership numbers for the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy where you can check whether your therapist is trained and qualified.
